A Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) is a generic term for the names of all resources connected to the World Wide Web.
URIs enable the protocols over the internet to conduct the interactions between and among resources. URIs take the form of strings of characters that server as identifiers: names and addresses to connected devices and other resources. The most common form URI is the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) — aka web address — which unambiguously describes and locates a public website or other web-connected resource.
