Algorithm

An algorithm is a rules set or process for carrying out tasks, typically mathematical calculations, to reach a desired result. Algorithms automate tasks that would otherwise be mundane or labor-intensive.

In computer programming, algorithms are sets of precise instructions the programmer tells the computer so the work is completed as expected and the goal is reached. The ingredients, components, or elements of the algorithm are called inputs, and the end result is the output.

A basic example of an algorithm is a recipe or set of instructions used to assemble a product. Respectively, in this analogy, he inputs are the ingredients or the tasks and the output is the dish or the piece of furniture.

Example:

"To present a homepage with suggested films and television shows, content-streaming website use an algorithm to examine past views and clicks."
