The SECURITY+ or Security (Plus) is a beginner’s professional certification for those starting or entering the cybersecurity field.

The US Department of Defense recognizes SECURITY+ a certification that achieves personnel compliance with DoD Directive 8570, which was recently succeeded by DoDD 8140, for baseline information security assurance.

SECURITY+ is sponsored by the US-based nonprofit CompTIA, or Computing Technology Industry Association. Certification requirements consist of a single, 100-question exam that is onsite and proctored, plus a fee.

“Many professional certifications are required or encouraged by employers as a way to illustrate a candidate’s basic knowledge. SECURITY+ is one of the certs that are recognized by DoD for basic requirements in the realm of information security.”
